My Poetry Project in Winneba, Ghana
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Myra Anderson. I’m a Charlottesville native, social entrepreneur, community leader, mental health/social justice activist, writer and Founder/Director of Brave Souls on Fire. I’m also a passionate spoken word POET The purpose of this GoFundMe is to cover the unfunded portion of the pcoming POETRY project I’ll will be facilitating with YOUTH in Cville and Winneba, Ghana. These funds will also be used to cover any personal travel expenses (update on shots) self–care expenses before, during and after etc.
As you may or may know know, I was awarded a grant (by the Charlottesville Sister City commission), in the amount of $2,500 for my Peace Love Poetry project. The Peace, Love Poetry workshop will be an interactive poetry collaboration between Charlottesville and our sister city in Winneba. This workshop will provide the opportunity for YOUTH in both locations to participate in a shared poetry experience. This collaboration will be mutually educational, culturally enriching and further fostering of our sister city relationship.
I LOVE POETRY!! I was inspired to submit this grant proposal by my immense love of poetry, my love of Winneba and my desire to share something meaningful with young people. I was afforded the opportunity to travel to Winneba as a member of the 2018 Delegation. It was a very life-changing eye-opening experience. During a farewell party for our delegation (hosted by the Mayor of Winneba) I requested a Sister city grant of $4,000. I was awarded $2, 500 to cover travel fee (airfare, lodging, meals, transportation, visa, travel health insurance, admission fees, etc.) and project expenses. I still need to raise another $1600 to cover ALL the remainder my program and personal expenses to make this all possible.
Can you support my project?
As you may know, I’m a Charlottesville native and a 6th generation descendent of the enslaved families of Monticello and the enslaved workers of the University of Virginia. I’m also Communty Fellow in Residence with the Equity Center @ UVA. I'm passionate, resilient hard working, self-motivated individual, who is constantly trying to improve my community in anyway I can. I have an immense desire to learn more, do more in my communtiy, and engage more as it relates to our sister city ( Winneba). I have supreme confidence if I raised the funds needed for this poetry project, I will do an amazing job. Thank for reading this and for consideration.
