My parents were victims to a fraud scheme

Hey there, my name is Kelly Owata. I started this Go Fund Me for my parents, Nancy and Arlo. They have both been through a lot the past few months, but the latest incident has been the hardest thing yet.

A little over a week ago, my parents fell victim to a fraud scheme. My mom's computer was hacked and then she received a call from the bank. The 'bank' (thieves) told her there was fraud on their bank account (but there wasn't), which lead to them going to the bank to transfer money out of their account in order to 'protect' their money. The police even said that the bank should have recognized this as a red-flag and intervened. My parents lost a large sum of money from this hacker. Their savings account and checking account were emptied.

We filed claims with both the bank and the police department. Unfortunately, we were just informed that the money has been traced to China and cannot be recovered. The bank will not help any further other than offering free checks, which they still have not received.

I have personally offered them money to help them get by, but they won't accept it. If anyone knows my parents, they give and give. So, I am asking if you are able to give them a little. I feel that they can't turn this option down, when everyone that donates to them are doing it out of love. It would be well appreciated if we could raise enough money to cover a month's worth of their bills.

I want to try to restore their faith, and remind them that there are still good people out there, and that you can still trust people. With Christmas here this adds another layer of stress on top of the financial stress they face and will continue to face.

If you can help, it would mean the world to all of us. If not, that is understandable as we are all facing difficult times. Give if you can, and if you cannot, please send a prayer. If you have any resources or advice for me to pursue this case, I would be grateful for that as well.

The only thing I ask is that you don't have them relive this event. The look on my parent's faces when they have to talk about what happened is gut-wrenching and breaks my heart. I can't imagine how they feel and never thought this could happen. Reach out to me if you have questions.
