Hello, I am currently in my third year of studying med in the UK. This degree means everything to me — it represents not just my own dream, but also the countless sacrifices my family has made so that I can reach this far

My parents come from very humble means. To support my studies, my mother sold all of her gold jewellery — even pawning some with the bank in exchange for money — and gave me all of her savings. My parents also borrowed from family and friends, with interest, just to help me pay my tuition fees. They sold our family land and are now trying, without success, to sell our home back in Sri Lanka.

On top of all of this, my parents — who are in their 60s, an age when they should be retiring and resting — still work endless hours to try to keep me in education. Their love and determination inspire me every single day, but it breaks my heart to see them carrying such heavy burdens at this stage of their lives.

Despite all their sacrifices, we are still struggling to cover the cost of my final year and a half until graduation. The thought of stopping now after everything my family has given up is devastating, however my next tuition payment is due in January and as an overseas student studying medicine a terms fees alone equate to £10,000 which we simply do not have.

My dream is not only to complete my degree and secure a good job, but also to give back to my parents for all they have done for me. I want them to finally have the peace they deserve, and I also hope one day to support others who find themselves in situations like mine.

This is why I am reaching out with a humble heart to ask for your support. Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly towards my education and help me take these last steps toward graduation.
