Update-
Mackenzie has underwent her second brain surgery on 11/3/2023. She was recently released from UPMC Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh to go home with her mom and dad, even though the Doctors djdnt want to release her due to, two nights her vitals were not well. Her heart rate dropped, her BP dropped and they ran sepsis reports on her. By the third day Kenzie was determined to go home. By the time they got home, Kenzie was in excruciating pain and struggling again. My sister and brother in law have been talking daily. Multiple times a Day to childrens hospital with kenzies progress. She was being stubborn refusing her meds and they are struggling to get her to eat and drink again. Luckily Kenzie loves my sisters boss and her messaged help kenzie atleast take her pain meds
Kenzie has swelling on the brain that is being watched closely. It will be critical for 12 weeks to make sure kenzie does not get a spinal leak, meningitis. Or an infection to the brain!
Between the Cerebellum. The brain. Spine and spinal cord is what all have endured the most trauma through the surgery and my family is just praying for everything to heal appropriately. They will be traveling back down on Friday to see her pediatric Neurosurgeon. Plus other appts after that they are waiting to schedule!
Helping my sisters family is something I want to do. I know how much of a financial burden this is on them, all the things they need for their daughter and their other 4 kids. Missing work and kenzies dad is out for a while while they set up a caretaker to come be with kenzie. Mackenzies meds after surgery alone cost them $130 to come home and they haven't even seen the medical bills yet and they are still paying from the first surgery. They both carry insurance from their jobs hut we all know that doesn't cover everything!
They have food to provide for their family their bills to pay to keep their home above float as much as possible and through this hard time, I just want to see as many people help them through a terrible time that NO family or child should endure.
My Sister Kayla and brother in law Jared thank you all and truly feel blessed to have so many people care about them and their daughter! ❤️
If you know this family, even in their hard times. They are still helping other families in need because they Say God would want that! They would literally give you their shirts off their back and their last penny to help anyone struggling. They have the biggest hearts of humans I have ever encountered!!
Thank you to everyone who continues to help my family.
As most of you are aware, the Amoroso family has been hit with unprecedented hard times. Their oldest daughter, Mackenzie Rae, age 11, was diagnosed with Chiari malformation and syringomyelia, she had undergone brain surgery back in 2022 and they were given horrible news again that the surgery was unsuccessful. Mackenzie will be undergoing yet another brain surgery, this time more advanced while they will be putting a durablast in to help with the swelling and fluid buildup, cutting more of her cranium out, and going into her spine to remove some of the cerebrospinal fluid to hopefully decompress the syrinx. The Amoroso family was given no other option besides surgery, as Mackenzie faces multiple issues if this is not taken care of promptly such as damage to her spinal cord that will compress and injure the nerve fibers that carry information to and from the brain.
I know Kayla and Jared do not like asking for help and multiple times had said no to a GoFundMe as they said it is embarrassing and but I was finally able to get them to agree to accept help. I talk to my sister daily and I know how much of a struggle they are having and financially it will get worst on them. Both parents will be off for her stay in Pittsburgh Childrens Hospital with her. Then when she can come home, one of her parents will be always home with her to keep her comfortable and stable which will be for weeks as this is a major operation taking her parents out of work that provides for the family.
If you have it in your heart to help my sister’s family during this chaotic time, please donate or share for them.
They have 5 kids, where 4 will be home with her oldest nephew who will be coming home from college to help them take care of the other four children who will be home and still need to attend school and their activities, they are involved in. In times like this is where I want to show my sisters family that people do care and they do have an army around them to help as a community.
