My nephew Landon is a very charismatic loving brother, nephew, grandson and son. At only 16 he works goes to school and is highly competitive on the school bowling team. Landon became ill and was hospitalized Christmas morning only weeks later to find out he has stage 4 colon cancer at 16 We are starting this to help with future medical treatments he has a long road but will fight and keep his upbeat sense of humor we all love. HERE IS LANDONS STORY
On 12-10 i received a call from the school nurse Landon wasn't feeling good, he felt sick to his stomach , chills and had a slight fever. I picked him up and took him to get a covid test,(switch was negative) ok guess he has the stomach bug that's going on. He was sick for about 3 days with classic flu symptoms. Then he was fine for a few days then would complain he felt sick and slept alot. We just assumed the bug was just kinda hanging around. This went on for 15 days. He continued to work, go to school and go to bowling meets. He is on ottawas Vastisy team. Dec 23rd he called and said he threw up at work but stayed to rest of his shift, the 24th Xmas eve he called off cause he wasn't feeling good at this time he was pale and weak looking. Christmas morning I woke up to him puking and asking to go to the ED. So at 530am on the 25th we went to st Elizabeth, after alot of fluids, bloodwork and ct scab it was determined that his colon perforated. He was then at 12:30pm transferred to the Illinois Children's hospital down in Peoria. At 1am on. 12-26 landon went completely septic. 12-27 they placed a ngtube and a mid line. 12-28 they placed a drain in his left abdominal area to drian the fliud from an abcess. 12-29 they removed the ngtube. 1-2 he spiked another fever they were pretty sure he had another abscess somewhere. 1-3 he went back in for a ctscan which showed a large abcess in his lower abdominal area. He was taken in and had another drain placed. They were able to drain 600ml from the abscess when the drain was placed. 1-7 he woke up puking and couldn't hold anything down. They which him to npo and did some x-rays. They were thinking he had an obstruction. Which he did but looked like it would resolve when the swelling went down. On 1-9 they started him on ppn. He now was at 45lbs lost. 1-10 he started throwing up what looked and smelt like fecal matter. 1-11 they did another CT scan and decided they had to do surgery cause the obstruction wasn't going away. They then placed another ngtube. 1-13 he was taken in for surgery to remove the obstruction and to place a colostomy bag. The surgery was supposed to taken 1 to 2 hrs. It ended up taken 4 1/2 hrs. At 12:24 pm the surgeon came out to talk with us and said the found the reason for the colon perforation. He had a tumor in his colon that broke threw the wall. Landon was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. It's 1 and a million that a person his age get this type of cancer. On 1-18 after 24 days in the hospital landon was released on home health. On 1-22 landon was taking back to the ED in ottawa. His Incision was leaking fluid. He was transferred back to the children's hospital in Peoria. They opened up the incision and are packing so it can heal better.
