MY NAME WAS ROBBIE

MY NAME WAS ROBBIE...
Less than 2 weeks ago Wexford pound asked us to help a 7month old collie boy with severe glandular condition on his neck.
One of our longest fosters Marlene drove down & took him into her care without any question or fuss.
She named him Robbie❤️
Robbie was receiving treatment for his neck and appeared to be doing really well. He captured Marlene's heart pretty much instantly. Have you ever met a pet that just captivated you instantly?
Roll on over a week later. Within a matter of hours Robbie started deteriorating. Marlene took him straight to the emergency vet as it was a Sunday and after 6pm. From there they sent Robbie the following day to Vet specialist team in Lucan.
It was discovered, after extensive tests, bloods, scans & Xrays that Robbie had developed sepsis on top of his already weak body. However, he was still just a 7 month old boy. He had a chance to survive if he got a blood transfusion.
Robbie was a Rescue with no "owner", just out of the pound. Only in our care a few days. But he bloody-well deserved his chance to live. So with Cara in his corner we'd fight for him. We gave consent to do the transfusion.
That was yesterday (Wednesday 11th).
A donor was found. Robbie was responding and appeared to be doing good. His temperature stabilised and he was comfortable...
At 4am this morning his body suddenly crashed and Robbie died.
To say we were devastated is an understatement. We felt helpless. Breaking the news to Marlene was nearly the hardest part. I don't think a lot of people could ever understand how rescue volunteers can love so much so fast. It's a curse I'm sure.
We wanted to do a post earlier this week introducing you to Robbie and asking for help covering the vet specialist bill, but never got to it. Sadly the bill still needs to be paid. So with heavy hearts we are appealing to you to still help us. To give us the chance to offer another unfortunate "no owner" dog a chance to live...
Robbies bill is now €3,266 which includes vet specialist & emergency vet. Excluding €125 We ourselves will pay for his cremation so he won't be disguarded in death like he was in this life. Sad but true.
Any donation is hugely appreciated
