My name is Erik Evans, and I don’t want to die. Please help me.

I have been diagnosed with cancer of the lungs, adrenal glans, some lymph involvement, and without rapid aggressive treatment, it could reach my brains — a notoriously lethal location.

This is going to be a long, involved and expensive process. I require many specialists (endocrinologist, oncologist, allergist, pulmonologist), as well as oxygen machines in the home, rehabilitation to get me as mobile as possible, and home health care. As well as the routine stuff like medicines.

I have done everything right, money-wise. I have insurance. I have cleaned out my retirement and wiped out my life’s savings. I have borrowed money from a friend, and I have sold any quick asset that could help me remain solvent.

But, I have now lost both of my jobs, and have no means of earning until I am a bit stronger and more mobile.

That leaves me in the unfortunate position of relying on the kindness and generosity of crowdfunding.

No man is an island, but I am close to being one: I am physically alone in Tuscaloosa. My mother, father, sister and brother all passed away before me.

This truly is my last resort. I don’t want to die, alone and stranded, in pain and wasting away, my mind tearing itself apart, racked by cancer, tortured by panic, watching the clock and wondering why I wasted the precious seconds I had been given and now waste them because I am too weak to avail myself of my time — however long that may be.

The copays and coinsurance for treatment, including imaging, chemo, immunotherapy, life-saving medications and all the other incidentals like toilets and walkers is going to run me to max out of pocket for about two years — $18,000.

Anything you can spare would be a godsend, as would sharing this plea with as many people as possible.

I have so much more to give. Please help me have those days and months and — God willing — years.
