"My Mother's Three Mothers" goes to California!

I'm thrilled to share the journey of "My Mother's Three Mothers," a deeply personal and timely story based on my mother's search for her birth mother. I began writing this script six years ago during my graduate studies at Goddard College. Since then, it has evolved through many revisions and phases. It started with a table read during my MFA program, then progressed to a staged reading with Open Door Theater in 2019, and culminated in a full production with Lost Nation Theater in the spring of 2023.

The production at Lost Nation Theater, directed by Kathleen Keenan, featured scenic design by Kelly Daigneault, scenic consulting by Kim A Bent. Lighting and projections by Jacob Sikorski, costumes by Charlene Sroka, sound by Andrew Vachon, and properties by Kelly Daigneault. Caroline Saltz managed the stage, while movement and choreographic consulting were provided by Taryn Noelle and Kim Ward. The cast included Sorsha Anderson, Kim A Bent, Alexa Kartschoke, Susan Palmer, and Eric Warwick.

Critics have praised the play for its powerful exploration of adoption rights, women's reproductive rights, and for posing the poignant question, "who owns your story?" Reviews have highlighted the production's impact:

"This is a rich celebration of theater, of personal integrity and responsibility, of the creative spirit." - Charlie McMeekin, The Herald

"I witnessed and gained insight on painful complexities of mothering (and fathering), daughtering, lying in efforts to protect loved ones or self. Plus: some of the long-lasting impacts of slut-shaming, among other important themes that warrant more attention in theater this century." - Janna Clar, Front Porch Forum

"A beautiful tale. Fascinating and very human...truly potent storytelling about a subject that touches nearly all of us." - Jim Lowe, The Times Argus

Now, I am working to bring this important message to even more theaters and audiences. I'm excited to announce that my play has been accepted for a staged reading at the feminist page-to-stage festival, "That's What She Said," at the Curtis Theatre in Brea, California (Orange County).

To take this next big step, I need your help. The funds raised will enable me to travel to the festival, meet with other playwrights and directors, and invite West Coast theater makers to experience the play. By being at the festival, I can be part of the excitement and work towards getting the play published and produced in more theaters.

Thank you for considering supporting my project. With your help, I can bring "My Mother's Three Mothers" to more audiences and continue the conversation about adoption, identity, and women's rights. Join me in making a difference and sharing this story with the world.
