Hi, my name is Zach Newell. On April 2nd, 2025, I lost my mom, Joyce, unexpectedly to cardiac arrest. Her sudden passing has left me not only heartbroken but overwhelmed by the financial responsibilities that come with her loss.

She was living alone, managing and paying for our shared house and we were taking steps towards selling it, as I am now located at, working and living in Michigan. This is in part because I am managing and treating my own health issues here. As this has unfolded, I have also come to learn she only had accidental life insurance and had used her savings as she was applying for disability.

In addition to coping with the emotional weight, I’m now facing the following expenses:

Cremation costs: $2,300

Car repair costs: $2,600 (she had recent work done on her car, and I need to get it back from the shop)

Outstanding bills: $1,000

Monthly mortgage and bills: $1,500

Memorial service: I plan to save any remaining funds for a future service to honor my mom’s memory.
