I'm In Danger of Being Homeless and I Need Help!

Since then, people have donated and have helped me get by for one month, but I'm not out of the woods yet. Please read this twitter post from start to finish to understand the situation I'm currently in. Again, all shares and donations are greatly appreciated!

I created this fundraiser in early 2023 for support as I left my full-time job to care of my mother, Stephanie. I've been taking care of her for over ten years but this year in particular is where her health started to decline at a sudden and extreme rate. She's been on dialysis for as long as I remember and as of this year, her walking has become so limited that she'll eventually need a hip surgery. I noticed that she also started to become forgetful and incoherent at times. Her behavior changed. She started getting agitated and sad seemingly out of nowhere. She started having bouts of extreme paranoia, especially toward her home health aide. She started hoarding, making it harder for her to navigate her room with her already limited mobility.

In the months since I started this fundraiser have been constant back and forth trips to various doctor's offices. Eventually we figured out why she changed so drastically. As of October 24th, 2023, my mom was diagnosed with mild Dementia by her neuropsychologist. The many years of her living with End-Stage Renal Disease is what led to this outcome. While dialysis helps, it doesn't filter everything out of her kidneys and over time this prevents her mind from getting all of the proper nutrients she needs, especially in her older age. This has been a strain on me as I'm her only son and family is unfortunately unable to help. Since leaving my job the only income I've had coming into the house is gone. We've applied for state programs and have been accepted by some, like SNAP. As I stated above, she has an aide that looks after her, but her paranoia is becoming so bad that I'll eventually have to let the aide go. And while one of the programs we applied for (Personal Preference Program) allows me to be paid by the state to be my mother's legal caretaker, there has to be an administrator who manages paperwork and someone who is the caretaker and I unfortunately can't be both. My mother can't comprehend things well enough to be the administrator and there isn't anyone else I know who is able to do it while I tackle the working part of the program. On top of that, I have to look for an elderly care lawyer in order to put things in place for my mother as well as making sure she's covered legally.

I understand that this fundraiser isn't going to be a permanent fix, but the funds will be used to give us a bit of a cushion until I can find a light at the end of the tunnel.
