My mom passed away on Sunday 2/19/23 after a life long struggle with her health. She was gone way too soon only 61 years old. When my mom was only 19 years old she almost passed away from Hodgkin lymphoma cancer - she had radiation as a medical treatment on her chest to cure this cancer. Then later in her life she had breast cancer that she survived as well were she received chemo. These medical treatments especially radiation ended up causing my mom to have a lot of heart and lung issues as she got older. She started to become short of breath and have difficulty breathing along with becoming fatigued so quickly.

Because of her declining health on Wednesday January 11th my mom went into heart surgery at UAB with an amazing medical team, she had a double bypass, and three heart valve repairs. If you’re not familiar with the heart- your heart only has 4 valves so her heart was so damaged prior to this surgery. She had no clue about the condition of her heart until about 6 months ago. She was doing okay at first after the surgery but the recovery process was incredibly difficult for her. She stayed in the hospital for 40 days trying to recover getting worse as the days went by. We are thinking her heart was just too weak by that time to recover from the surgery. After some time she was on a breathing tube and life support to help maintain her heart. The life support stopped working after week 5 and my moms organs began to shut down because of so much lack of proper oxygen since not only was her heart affected but her lungs as well. On Sunday she passed away with my sister my dad and I holding her and saying goodbye. Never in my life did I think this day would come so soon for my mom. This doesn’t feel real and just feels like a nightmare we can’t wake up from.

My mom was an incredible women and mom. She always made sure to give me everything I needed and pushed me hard to succeed. Her and my dad always helped support me financially in any time I needed them which I’m incredibly grateful for. They always had my back. I really want to be strong for my dad here, he was married to my mom for 37 years and raised two amazing children and I’m incredibly proud to be their daughter. I really want to surprise my dad with helping with my moms funeral. I know he doesn’t need my help at all but I want to take some of this burden off his shoulders since this was so unexpected.
