My mother needs open heart surgery

Last year when my mom was volunteering with the fire rescue and evacuation teams in Sonoma County, it is believed she contracted Q fever. Q fever is caused by a bacterium called Coxiella burnetii which is transmitted from live stock to humans.

In most cases Q fever causes flu-like symptoms, muscle and joint pain, nausea, and loss of appetite. However along with all of those symptoms my mother also developed the chronic form of Q fever which led to an infection of the heart valves, also know as Endocarditis. After months of suffering endlessly, without a diagnosis, she is finally being treated. However the infection has damaged her aortic and mitral valves on her heart and she will be needing Cardiopulmonary Bypass Surgery.

Her surgery is scheduled for Monday August 6th, 2018. The doctor informed us that she is at a much higher risk for problems during the surgery because of the infection. All I am asking for at this time is a little help to keep my mom is your thoughts and prayers. My mom is the strongest person I know and I have no doubt she will be okay. Unfortunately, this all happened so quickly and I can not be there with my mom in the hospital until after surgery. The donations I receive will go towards helping my family with bills. It will allow me to take some time off from both my jobs to fly home and be with her and my sister and brother.
