Vonni's Battle: Rising from Senseless Gun Violence

On February 20, 2024, our mom, Yvonda, was the victim of senseless gun violence. She was shot at multiple times as she was traveling to work along her typical route, which she had taken for the last 5 years. Her being shot also caused her to get involved in a vehicle collision, in which her vehicle collided with structures following the shooting. She was so excited and proud to get to work that day because she had recently received a promotion, as her company recognized her for her longevity and work ethic. Sadly, she was targeted by an irresponsible individual who decided to try to take her away from us—changing our lives forever.

As a result of being shot in the face, my mom sustained significant head trauma that called for initial emergency surgeries and will require several surgical procedures to follow, along with numerous types of therapies. I am so thankful not to have lost her! She is so strong and pushing forward to get better; however, we undoubtedly have a significant journey toward recovery and establishing our new normal—whatever that may look like.

Many have asked for an opportunity to assist, so I wanted to share a GoFundMe established on her behalf to help with medical bills and financial responsibilities for which she would otherwise be responsible. At this point, she needs to work on recovering and getting stronger, not worrying about bills. I have two juvenile sisters who still reside at home, and they count on her for support. She is a single parent and ensures they have everything they need, and I do not want their quality of life to become affected by this cruel act of violence more than it already has. I am also counting on her to get better and keep moving forward. After being struck in the head by several projectiles, she remains optimistic about our future, as she should be. SHE IS A TROOPER!!!

We are so thankful we still have her with us as a family! She has no choice but to get better; I will not have it any other way!

Thank you so much in advance for your support, as the kindness and love expressed means more to us than you can imagine.

Due to an ongoing criminal investigation and our family's processing of this information and grieving, this is the extent of the information we are willing to share at this time.

With love,
Vonni's kids
