My mom has lost everything due to the flood that came down the Concho River from San Angelo on July 4th. The rapidly rising water didn’t give her any time to save important belongings. The most important thing is that my mom and the two dogs got out to safety, as well as my aunt and uncle who live next door with their two dogs. I am forever thankful for the first responders, rescue teams, and volunteers working to get everyone to safety on the river. Within the next few hours, both of their houses were destroyed. Both properties suffered complete and thorough destruction. My mom’s house was taken off its foundation and moved in water over 8ft deep. The inside of the house has significant water damage and is a total loss. Vehicles, freezers, keepsakes, important documents, storage sheds, and so much more, all gone. We have been left shattered by our losses but remain more shattered for those to the south of us who have lost countless precious lives.
Not but less than 4 months ago, we lost my dad and my granddaddy within days of each other. Although I am glad my dad was not here to see the destruction of the place his heart loved so much, my mom has lost more than we can measure in such a short amount of time.
I do not know what the future holds for my mom or aunts' homes, but I know clean-up efforts will be a long and difficult road.
We are blessed to have had people offer places for them to stay while displaced as we figure out our next steps. But the financial burden of simple things in the meantime is overwhelming. Clothes, shoes, medicine, toiletries, and food are all things completely lost and needing to be replaced.
I know there are so many people in need right now, so it feels hard to even ask, but my mom needs help. She has lost her soulmate, provider, protector, and home in such a short time and still has positivity in her.
Thank you all and God bless
