The story:
I'm making this on behalf of my mom for her cat, Fredday. In 2024, Fredday was able to make it to the vet (a bill costing over $300) for a checkup that confirmed he had asthma. He was coughing, wheezing, lost appetite, and what he did eat didn't stay in him long. One way or another. They did tests and gave him his required rabies vaccination that would last up to one year. It was thanks to a GoFundMe like this that he was able to get the help he needed.
Since then, I helped train him to take an inhaler (with a promised reward of Delectables & Sheba Sticks). We've kept up with getting his inhaler medication from the cheapest, and most reliable, place we could find.
However, our financial status has been a struggle. Especially since Covid, but more so when my mom needed to retire, as a senior, due to health. Since then, finding a job for my disabled situation and her situation has brought us no luck out of constant applications.
Her vehicle, our only transportation, also started having problems. One after another.
Most recently, we discovered it "might" be the Fuel Pump.
We found this out just before Thanksgiving and knew with the holidays it would be difficult to find out who could help out. Then her daughter, my sister, passed away and things were put on the back burner to try to deal with our grief.
Back on the hunt for the car needing repair, as it is not always possible to have transportation for everything, on top of emergencies, we hunted down if we could find help.
Our local mechanic is unable to fix it due to the location and the cheapest we could find would require her to use her AAA tow to get there. My mom, Therese, also got a quote done. All of that will follow soon.
As we dealt with that, we found that Fredday's inhaler was nearly out, so we reached out to his vet to find out about getting him another appointment so he could have another year of prescription available. Asthma is a serious condition and can be fatal to cats as well. He is now 10 years old and we don't want to risk any health issues to him.
Unfortunately, that vet has closed down so we had to contact them in order to try to get his medical records to get him to another vet (that is a bit further away), get him his exam + rabies vaccination + prescription write out, get him a replacement inhaler holder specific to cats (as his current one is wearing down and can only be purchased with at least 1 inhaler. With that in mind, my mom's car needs to be repaired to give us access to him getting to the vet, us getting food/necessities, and continuing the hunt for income.
Fredday has run out of his asthma medicine as of the first of 2026. We had awaited a response from his previous vet in order to have it prepared for his next visit and cannot order any refills until we get a prescription and have the funds (each inhaler lasts about 2 months, so we get a set of 3 at a time). However, he started coughing in the beginning of an asthma attack on the 17th of January, so his previous vet was contacted again (we were understanding considering it was during the holidays that the original email was sent). As of the 18th, we finally received his previous medical records and can proceed with that information in hopes of getting him the best care.
We have been so grateful to all the aid we've received, as without it our bills, food, and even the roof over our heads would not be available to us.
Unfortunately, it has come to the point to raise money for this very important, life changing and life helping, cause. Both for Fredday and for our search for income and self-providing in transportation and emergencies.
GoFundMe takes a 2.9% + .30 charge for each donation, so that is where the numbers come from.
The images below are excerpts (to prevent doxing ourselves) of the previous payments, as well as our current quotes of what things "should" cost.
The Breakdown of Funds
The Vet Visit Quote : $75 for the exam & $25 for his rabies vaccination. There was no mention of taxes, but I imagine there will be.
The Medication is from his first prescription and likely what it will cost this time, again. $247.71
However, due to tariffs being a possibility, that could be an added 35% fee added to it.
-----------------------------------> $334 (if there are tariffs and taxes added and no other problems arise from Fredday's visit with the new vet. His eye is going blind, we believe, but that would not cost extra for a simple wellness check and there is nothing that can be done about it. If there is something, then that will be discussed later and added here if absolutely necessary)
Car Repair Quote: The quote given for the full repair + part (if one of our local mechanics are correct on what the problem is) is quoted at "parts & labor warranty is right around $395". This of course does not guarantee the final cost as my mom will pay in advance before AAA takes the vehicle to them, nor does it account for taxes. My research and potentials puts it at around $500. If it is less than that, then the rounded up can go towards gas an the extra fuel treatment due to it not being in working order since November of 2025.
I do not know if Amazon links are allowed or not here, but they will be included in every place I put this at. However, the requests are primarily for:
Pee Pads (100ct x3; uses 1-3 a day) for $22*3 = $66 (for a potential lasting of 3-4 months of usage. (he does not like the texture of any type of litter that we have found, so only my cat - Diamond - uses litter. Which we are fine on, for now, due to this.)
Sheba sticks (70 count) for $23 (as of the time of this creation) which would be taken every other day for Fredday's reward/motivation for his inhaler = almost 5 months of usage.
Delectables (20ct x 4) for $12.50 * 4 = $50 which is taken every other day at half a tube, so would last for about 5 months of usage.
Cat Food: $20
This is added to the GoFundme as these are things that are all required for Fredday (though my cat, Diamond, shares with the catfood and in some of his "rewards"). His rewards ease the stress and tension that comes with the requirement of holding your cat (Fredday in this case) while putting a mask against his face and pressing air (inhaler) into it and waiting for him to breath (10 times) at least once a day (twice if his asthma is very bad. Luckily we only had to do that in the beginning).
Taking Everything Into Account
* The vehicle repair: emergencies, getting Fredday to the vet, allowing us to return to income possibilities to stop having to request aid, not have to waste what money we have which comes from my mom's Senior Social Security check is all we reliably and any kindness and donations from others.
* Fredday's Health: Vet appointment, exam, rabies update (it was yearly, if we get enough donations perhaps we can upgrade to the 3 year one), a prescription (for a year, hopefully), and at least 6 months of medicine + a mask to use the inhaler in (required).
* Fredday's Cat Care: The rewards that help ease him for his stress for 3-5 months + at least one month of cat food to allow us to use that money towards hygiene or my mom's monthly medication.
* Added Fees: GoFundMe, as stated, takes a percentage per donation. There is a way to paypal me directly (which I will then manually add to the pool here), but that will be provided in places where I link this (just in case it's not allowed here) to avoid some extra fees. There is also the risk of added taxes, car complications, quote changes with the car, and tariffs.
In Conclusion
The likely cost of everything, should every fee and the need to buy Fredday's necessities from Amazon happen, and should the car quote potentially go up, and at worse tariffs or other fees happen, the cost could go up to $1,128 by my calculations.
However, at best it might be $800 if there are no tariffs, extra health issues, or added fees to the car.
What will happen if we reach the goal in full and everything is paid as listed here?
The extra funds will go towards the bills so that we don't have to ask friends and family to pay for them. It will go towards food so that we're not having an empty fridge/freezer before our aid comes in every month. It will give us padding as we continue to search for means of reliable (and non-scam) income.
My Heartfelt Thanks and Gratitude
This worked out once before, almost 2 years ago. Friends, family, acquaintances, and strangers came together so that Fredday could get the help that he needed when we had no idea what the problem was. He was able to get temporary medicine while we waited for his inhaler and the time it took to train him to accept the uncomfortable position.
I am grateful to every single person that shares this Fundraiser. Each share is like a domino effect that can reach someone - anyone - who can help donate to this very important, life changing, cause.
A dollar helps tremendously - do not undervalue if that's all you can donate. Every dollar counts. And if you can do more, that is also greatly appreciated.
The car must be fixed first so that we can make an appointment so that Fredday can see the vet before his cough returns to the point of weight loss and difficulty breathing. Then the medication can be ordered and if this site allows, I will update with those payments being made.
Thank you.
From me, my mom, Fredday, and Diamond.
We appreciate your kindness and help.
