My Mom Zoya's Surgery
Donation protected
Dear friends,
This is my mom, Zoya. Last week, dad found a lump in her right breast. We saw the oncologist who was very concerned and immediately sent her to all kinds of checkups. All of those confirmed cancer the size of a walnut, plus a couple of tiny ones. She met with the team of two surgeons and they both confirmed it’s extremely urgent to operate it as soon as possible - they said it’s a matter of minutes!
Here in Serbia, waiting for a surgery through insurance could last for months or even years and my mom simply doesn’t have that kind of time. This is why we are raising money to have private surgeons perform this surgery as soon as humanely possible and save my mom’s life.
Now the good news: The cancer seems to have not gone into the lymph nodes and my mom is in very good spirits and she’s determined to win this just like she’s always won every battle that she fought.
A bit about my mom: She’s a grandma to our little boy who recently exclaimed when talking about who is old: “…But mommy, grandma Zoya isn’t old!” She’s also a full-time wife and an overtime assistant to my dad and birthed the three of us. Lately but especially during this pandemic, she’s become the most sought-after math and physics tutor in our little hometown. She is also completely incapable of cooking the same meal twice or not messing up a joke by forgetting the ending. She taught herself how to speed read as a kid and then read the entire town library with ease. She won an award for a short story when she was 14 and was praised by a Nobel Prize Winner, Ivo Andric, who wrote about her at the leading Serbian news outlet of that time “Politika”. More than anything, her life is priceless to us.
Please feel free to donate to our fundraiser to help with the cost of surgery, chemo and post op bills, to save my mom and have stay with us and tell us bad jokes for many years to come. We are eternally grateful for any amount that you are able to donate; no amount is too small or insignificant. So much love from our family to yours.
Cost breakdown:
-Surgery (includes reconstructive part) $7,500
-Rent, bills, and groceries for 3 months $1,500
