My Mom, Your Friend, Needs Our Help!

Donation protected
If you were to look up “selfless” in the dictionary, you would see a picture of my beautiful mom, Kathy. My mom is and has accomplished so many wonderful things. However, my mom has also endured a true medical battle for the past 31 years. She has had 14 spinal surgeries, a total hip replacement, and 5 other surgeries as well.

This past spring, my mom began consistently falling for unknown reasons. She then began experiencing severe pain on the left side of her body. Within a 3-week period, my mom was completely unable to walk. After numerous medical appointments, tests, and scans, my mom was diagnosed with severe muscle atrophy, due to extreme nerve damage of the spine.

One medical specialist who treats this disease told my mom that this is a “horrendous disease which causes horrendous pain.” When she asked for treatment options, she was told by several medical specialists that there is no treatment, there is no cure. My mom was told to “learn to accept her new life.” This “new life” consists of my mom being wheelchair-bound - no more walking, doing any stairs, or driving.

My mom’s insurance company gave her a manual wheelchair, but with her previous spinal surgeries, she has limited strength and wheeling herself causes even more pain than she is already in. In addition, my mom has contacted 4 different companies in order to have a ramp built on her home. Each of the 4 companies told her that she would need to pay out of pocket to have a wooden ramp built (rather than have an aluminum ramp possibly provided with assistance) due to her house being too close to the sidewalk in her city limits.

I am asking all of our family and friends to please consider helping my mom, Kathy, in any way you can so that she can acquire an electric wheelchair. Any additional support would be utilized towards funding a contractor to build her a wooden ramp for her home. My mom, and our family, sincerely appreciate your kindness and generosity. For those who are unable to give, I ask that you please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!
