Support for Dorrainne Sculac's Battle with Cancer
Hi, my name is Caitlin, and I am reaching out to ask for support for my incredible mother, Dorrainne. In 2024, our lives were turned upside down when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma/Angioimmunoblastic Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
What is Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma? Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the blood, lymphatic system, and can impact multiple organs, including the skin, gastrointestinal tract, liver, and spleen.
It all started in the spring of 2024 when my mom found a small lump on the right side of her neck. At first, we didn’t think much of it since the lump had been there since 2023, when she had a thyroid biopsy due to her autoimmune condition, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. That earlier test had raised concerns for thyroid cancer, but thankfully, it came back negative. However, by summer 2024, the lump had grown, leading us to more testing.
After an initial biopsy and blood work, doctors suspected lymphoma. Though we were uncertain of the diagnosis at first, my mom remained optimistic and immediately began researching her condition. After months of additional tests—PET scans, blood smears, biopsies, and surgery—we received the devastating news that the cancer had spread into her bone marrow, advancing to Stage 4.
Despite the challenges, my mom has always been a fighter. She’s faced hardships throughout her life with strength and resilience, and this time will be no different. But we know that this journey will be long, difficult, and filled with both emotional and financial strain. We are asking for your help to ease the financial burden so that my mom can focus on her health and healing, rather than the weight of mounting medical costs.
Why We Need Your Help: As you can imagine, cancer treatment comes with numerous unexpected costs—doctor’s visits, medications, chemotherapy, bills piling up, and home care. All of this, coupled with my mom’s existing health issues (including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, degenerative disc disease, and fibromyalgia), has made this journey even more overwhelming.
In January 2025, my mom began chemotherapy, but her road to recovery is just beginning. She has always been an independent, strong woman who never asks for help, but the reality of her illness has forced her to lean on others. It has been heartbreaking to witness her struggle, especially when she had to shave her head due to hair loss. Yet, through it all, she has remained strong, showing courage in the face of adversity.
Her unwavering positivity is a beacon of hope for all of us, and we believe it will continue to fuel her recovery. We’re asking for your support—whether through a donation, a kind word, or by sharing this page with others.
How You Can Help: Your donation will go directly toward medical expenses, home care, and other needs so that my mom can focus on her treatment and reduce the stress that this diagnosis has caused. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference.
If you're unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing this page to help spread the word.
Current Update: Unfortunately, with her immune system compromised by cancer and treatment, my mom is currently battling pneumonia. Thankfully, doctors caught it early, and she is undergoing IV therapy. We’re hopeful she will recover quickly, as her next round of chemotherapy is fast approaching.
Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support during this difficult time. We will continue to provide updates on her journey and appreciate all the love and encouragement.
With deep gratitude,
Caitlin Sculac
