Our mom, Stacey, recently underwent surgery to remove a tumor found on her bladder a few weeks ago. After getting the results, we discovered it was cancerous and began spreading to other areas, like her lungs. She was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma, a rare, aggressive smooth muscle cancer that isn’t very well known in the US. This cancer affects only about 2,500 people across the country each year. Due to this, she will have to go through clinical trials to help combat it from worsening with time. The past few years have been hard on our family; recently, getting out of a divorce, it seemed that one thing fell into the other in our mom’s life. Since she won’t be able to work for some time, we are unsure how we will pay for the medical bills that come with the treatment. At this point, her surgery was $50,000, which will only increase with more treatment. This isn’t something we thought we would ever have to consider, let alone how soon it occurred. It’s scary to deal with, and it hasn’t yet fully processed what is happening. She has a huge battle, but we know she’s strong enough to overcome this. She is one of the strongest, most influential people in our lives, and it has been hard to see her like this. Any help that can be provided to her and our family is more than appreciated, and we know that it will help her, knowing that many people around her are in her support.
