Anita's Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer

Donation protected
My brother (Francisco) and I, are proud to have a mother like Anita. She has left a positive mark on anybody who has had the privilege of having her in their life. She is incredibly independent and always has more to give to others, even if this means making sacrifices.

She pursued a career as an advertising executive and later became a full-time mother when she had us. Although this was a difficult decision, she was incredibly loving and made a tremendous impact on our lives as she raised us. She was heavily involved in the community as well, most notably singing every Sunday morning in the St. Bede’s Choir; she was also, fundraising and chairing events in support of various institutions. Whether it was in our school or in our community, our mother always made it a point to be involved.

Our mom’s life changed drastically through a divorce; only proving her resilience in character and determination as a mother. When she was forced back to work in an industry that had gone digital in her absence (advertising), she was nothing but a prime example of strength. Working freelance for agencies and learning day-by-day about the changed profession that she left 20 years ago to raise her kids. When life threw us curveballs, she handled them like a champ.

The past year has been incredibly hard for us. After a series of misdiagnoses and altogether switching to a different hospital, it was found that our mother has Pancreatic Cancer. Due to its advanced stages, she is participating in treatments at UCLA that will hopefully bring positive results.

She is lucky to be in a great facility, but unfortunately this does not come without a price. As we all know, getting sick can be very expensive. Unexpected costs present themselves everyday: whether it’s copayments, deductibles or the cost of basic necessities. This will also include finding mom a place to live (but not without the family dog, Buttons)! As her kids, we are doing everything we can to support her through this process but we cannot do it alone.

Because of her health, Anita has not been able to work in the past year and does not qualify for government help. On top of this, we lack the financial help from extended family. Participation in this GoFundMe will help us more than you know. We ask that you please help our mom through this difficult process. Anything helps, and endless thanks to those who can give.
