Please help Carrie with Emergency Medical Bills

Spende geschützt
I am setting this GoFundMe account up for my stepdad and mom, Frank and Carrie Palmer. They are extremely reluctant to ask for any kind of help, and yet have helped others in this way many times. Recently, my mom had a radical tonsillectomy to remove a growth and because the surgeon had to go so deep, the wound was vulnerable for possible future bleed during the healing process. Seven days after that surgery, it happened in a very dramatic and actually traumatic way. The bleeding was difficult to stop and the blood loss was substantial. It took an ambulance ride to one hospital, a care flight helicopter ride to another, along with 5 days in the hospital to stabilize her and set her on the path to continue healing from the initial surgery. A lot of their amazing friends and family are asking for practical ways to help and here is a way to do just that. First and foremost, continued prayers for healing so this doesn’t happen again. Right now, the financial strain of it all is overwhelming. And with everything they’ve got going on, I hate for them to have the added financial stress that came with this unexpected emergency. Please help if you can, but prayers are still most appreciated!!

5-21 UPDATE:
Carrie has been admitted to the hospital again. The wound opened up a second time and an ambulance had to come get her. According to Frank it was a severe bleed but they have it contained. Please keep praying for her! Thank you ❤️

5-24 UPDATE:
My mom has a procedure last night to essentially tie off the blood vessel that keeps bleeding. During the procedure she bled a lot and ended up coding. She possibly has broken ribs from the CPR. She is going in for a scan to see if the procedure was successful. she is currently sedated and on a ventilator. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and for all of your prayers!

Clarifying on above update: so she actually had a third bleed where the wound opened up on its own again and wasn’t just having a procedure when the bleeding started. They believe they fixed the problem during the emergency surgery and discovered it was the exterior carotid artery. She is being kept sedated and on a ventilator until tomorrow so she can rest.

5-26 UPDATE:
Carrie’s daughters flew in yesterday to be with her and her parents Mike and Pam are driving down and should be here today. There are also other family members flying down to offer support and prayer in person.

Biggest thing right now is praying that God would heal her brain and the wound and that she would wake up completely fine with no lasting effects from the lack of oxygen to her brain. They’ve said that they found her pretty quickly when she went into cardiac arrest and were able to revive her pretty quickly but she had lost a severe amount of blood. Her EEG that the doctor discussed with us yesterday showed a lower than normal amount of brain activity. We have tried rousing her out of sedation a couple of times now and she does not want to wake up. However we also cannot let her be unsedated for too long because her body jerks a lot and it could cause further injury to her wound.

Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who has reached out, offered financial support and asked if there is anything we need, and thank you to all of our many prayer warriors. ❤️ we are not losing hope yet. We serve a mighty God who can do all things and we are here talking with her and rubbing her arms and legs trying to stimulate her while she sleeps.
Another update: Carrie is being kept on heavy sedation until further notice. She is going to have an MRI tomorrow morning to check brain activity and then we will go from there. She was responding to external stimuli (voices and rubbing) earlier but right now is pretty still. We’re hoping it’s because she is just tired from an eventful night with lots of pokes and repositioning and a bath.

5-27 UPDATE:
Carrie had her MRI today at 9 am. As I write this (Colby) we just got out of big meeting with all of the family here and discussed the results. We had also this morning tried reducing her sedation again and she was shaking a lot still with no response to painful stimuli.
Doctor said MRI did not show definitive proof of brain damage, however with her response to coming off sedation not improving over the past 3 days she did say it is not very likely for her to improve, however we believe we are going to give it a few more days to see if the Lord can work a miracle and to see if her brain can improve on its own since she is young.
Thank you again for all of your prayers.

5-30 UPDATE:
Its been a crazy past few days here. On Saturday we met as a family with doctor and discussed giving my mom a few more days to see if she could make any improvement. The next day we went into the hospital (Sunday) and found her starting to open her eyes and turn her head slightly. She reacted slightly to painful stimuli in her feet. Doctor and nurses seemed pleased and surprised but said to be cautiously optimistic.
Yesterday (Monday), Carrie was responding to certain voices by opening her eyes and turning her head towards certain people. She also started showing full facial emotion (crying and sometimes smiling) and doctor said that is a very good sign. They also tried letting her breathe on her own (while still being hooked up to the ventilator) and she was able to breathe spontaneously on her own for over 3 hours.
Today Carrie has continued to improve with breathing on her own for 7 plus hours and has been tracking certain movements and opening her eyes more. She has obeyed certain commands such as “open your eyes more” and “wiggle your toes” and has good corneal reflexes. Neurologist came in and assessed her and said he is hopeful after an examination with her and that he anticipates her being able to eventually get off the breathing tube. He said he has seen patients do worse during a neurological exam walk out of the hospital. If she makes it through she will likely need extensive rehabilitation at a neuro rehab center in Reno. As I write this she is getting another MRI just to compare to the first one done on Saturday.
thank you again everyone for your prayers and for checking in continuously. God is moving and doing miracles!
