My Mitzvah Project to Honor Luba Jachniuk
Tax deductible
For my Mitzvah Project, I decided to twin or share my Bat Mitzvah with my ancestor, Luba. Twinning or sharing your Bar or Bat Mitzvah means you are dedicating your day to a person you choose who never got an opportunity to have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Luba is my great grandfather's sister. She was the youngest of 9 kids, having 4 sisters and 4 brothers. I don't know how old she was during the Holocaust but she was definitely under 12 because she never had a Bat Mitzvah. She died in the Holocaust. She was taken to a ghetto for 1 1/2 years and was lucky enough to be placed with her mother and sisters. She is just 1 of 1.5 million kids who died in the Holocaust. My Mitzvah Project fulfills the commandment "Zahor" which means to remember. I am raising money for the American Society for Yad Vashem to fund the education of future generations about the Holocaust, ensuring that those who perished will always be remembered.
