Hi my name is Andrew Barkby “Samy’s mate”.
A lot of people may not know Samy and the struggles he has faced and still facing, so here is a brief run down…….
Samy migrated to Australia from Mauritius some 14 years ago with his wife and 2 x very young children with a 3rd child later born in Australia. Samy basically came with a suit case and the clothes on his back. Samy’s vision was to come to Australia to raise his family obtain permanent residency and find peace in our country.
Unfortunately this would not be the case.
From the time he landed in Australia he would be taken advantage of.
The contact he had for his accomodation basically demanded an upfront payment whilst still at the airport for his accomodation being $5000, 1/3 of the only cash savings Samy had at this time. His accomodation being a shack out he back of a property in In the middle of no where (near Wyong).
Samy then for the next few years took the only work he could find for shit wages well under any legal amount, again being taken advantage of by those preying on the weak.
Some years later Samy was placed on a Hindmarsh Construction Site (Gladesville) with myself as my labour hire carpenter.
Samy’s pure honestly, integrity, hard work, reliability, humble, kind attitudes would see him work side by side with myself for the next 7 years till present.
At this point Samy is working under a 457 skilled working visa. Now, being from Mauritius, Samy and his family are not entitled to Medicare, free schooling, loans no nothing, he has to pay full fare for everything.
During our time together Samy would try and keep his struggles very close to his chest as not to burden those around him like myself and Monti. (Another alright Bloke)
Such struggles would include:
- His Wife’s Monthly visits to hospital for breast cancer prevention treatment at $550 a hit.
- His children being bullied at school
- The need to pay for the children’s schooling being up to $23,000 per year for all 3 kids.
- The need to pay for the ambulances that would over multiple occasions take one of his children to hospital for respiratory illness at $3k a pop.
- Hospital stays at $2500 per night.
- The inability to register motor vehicles due to no available funds.
- The inability to put food on the table due to little available funds.
- The inability to pay road tolls due to no money.
- The exorbitant VISA cost out laid for failed VISA applications $6000
- A recent eye injury he has that requires treatment, his vision is partially lost in 1 x eye from a whipper snippering incident. Currently can’t afford to get this treatment.
- The list goes on…..
Right now Samy has not been successful in his quest to become a permanent resident of Australia, nor does he have enough funds to pursue another VISA.
The position Samy and his family are in now Is taking a massive toll on the mental health on his family.
Samy’s wife is now receiving help from a psychiatrist for her mental health.
Samy himself is a broken man, crying for help on the inside but still does not want to burden myself or Monti or others with his struggles.
Right this very moment Samy is trying to sell his car that he needs for work, just so he can pay what he owes.
For me enough is enough.
My mate Samy needs my help. He is in a hole he can not climb out of.. a deep scary dark hole..
Our minimum target of $25000 will see:
- medical debt’s paid out
- future VISA cost to give him 4 more years paid
- his eye treatment paid
- breast cancer treatments for 12 months
- His tolls debts paid out
- His car not sold.
- some schooling costs paid.
