My Last Semester at Morehouse College
Donation protected
Currently, I am a graduating senior studying physics, minoring in mathematics at Morehouse College. I have successfully reached my final semester. Upon graduation, I will commission as an active duty Second Lieutenant into the United States Army. This honor is not something I take lightly, but something I fought and worked towards. I am currently a non-scholarship, SMP cadet in the Georgia State University Army ROTC program. I drill with the 335th Reserve Theater Signal Command located in East Point, GA.
The issue is that I have exhausted all of my resources in order to pay for school. My family and friends are maxed out on loans. I have taken out upwards of $100,000.00 in Sallie Mae loans. I took out an additional $25,000.00 from the USAA Career Starter Loan. I have been auditing all of my classes this past semester. I need a total of $20,843.00 for ‘my last semester year. I am doing whatever it takes to finish the mission. Rather than go home I choose to be homeless in order to stay in school I still went class, work, and PT. This battle taught me how persevere and to never quit.
In August 2015, I was effectively dis-enrolled from the program due to my grades. In the April 2017, I reached out to the new Georgia State University Army ROTC commander. She gave me another chance to be an Army officer. The following year required my absolute best in every endeavor. After passing all the dictated requirements above the standard, I was approved to rejoin the ROTC program. I earned the privilege to commission. I continued to perform exceptionally well. I went on to earn an Excellence rating at Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, KY, as well a pair of Airborne School wings from Fort Benning, GA. This chapter in my life I will use to motivate my future Soldiers of the rewards of hard work. Keeping a good attitude in tough times is the glue that makes our Armed Forces so strong. These trials made me a better man. Today I choose to put my best foot forward. Today, I chose to follow my dreams. If you can donate anything it would mean the absolute world to me. Please share this letter. God Bless you.
