Hi, my name is JJ Webb and I'm a Team GB fencer. I am raising money to help fund my journey to the 2028 LA Olympic Games.

My journey:

My career in sabre fencing started at only 11 years old when I was introduced to the sport by pure chance in a school PE lesson at Kemnal Technology College in southeast London. An Olympic dream was immediately sparked, and I quickly stopped the other sports I was competing in to focus on my development as a fencer.

By 13 I was representing Great Britain at age group international events and by 17 was ranked in the top 5 in world U17 rankings. By the time I left school, I was given a contract on the British Fencing world-class programme that was then funded by UK sport. I was a professional athlete, a dream come true. In 2016, however, UK Sport cut the funding to my sport and left me and several athletes with a decision to make, leave my dream behind, or find a way to make my dream come true on my own. Of course, I chose the latter. So, I got my coaching qualifications and alongside my training and competition commitments, began coaching in schools, giving other young kids the same chance that I was given at age 11. I would use this money to help support my fencing.

During the time that I have been self-funded, I have been crowned British champion, 2x Commonwealth champion, and met career-best results at the European and world championships, as well as being selected to represent Team GB at the European games in 2023, I even got a degree in Psychology, but still, the Olympics has evaded me. Each Olympic season has been accompanied with serious injuries that over the past two years have put my career in question and after falling short of the Paris Olympics, I found myself asking whether I can handle another 4 years. That’s when the 11-year-old in me spoke up, reminded me of my dreams and told me to not stop here.

So here I am, going for my Olympic dream for one final time, and that’s where I need your help. In the lead-up to the LA Olympics, I will need to attend 40 international competitions over 4 years, work day in and day out with my coaching and sports science team and maintain proper rest patterns so that my body can keep me going without interruption. Your support will enable me to do that, and in four years, when I'm flying the team GB flag I will be taking every one of you with me.
