Hello my name is Daisie and I am fundraising for my best friend Sophie so she can have her 2nd Gastric Pacemaker. I first met Sophie on the 19th June 2019 at CWA Student of Year because we had both been shortlisted for different awards. Anyway besides that she had a feeding tube on her face but couldn’t help being interested in her and after six years of knowing her despite all the health battles she has faced, she is more of a sister to me than a best friend but I am so proud I get to be a part of her life.

I remember when Sophie first told me about this gastric pacemaker which we now call Rockie but I’ll get onto that in a minute. To be honest I thought it was slightly crazy but now I’ve seen what Rockie can do the impact is massive. The reason we can her pacemaker Rockie is because she says it’s like a piece of rock inside of her Unfortunately this type of pacemaker is not available on the NHS so Sophie and her family are raising funds for her next pacemaker because she’ll need a new one in about four or five years but this is where I come in.

Sophie has always admired my determination to stay fit and go to the gym, especially when I tell her I managed 26 floors in 10 minutes on the Stair Master. From that it got me thinking about raising money but also challenging myself in a way that could benefit us both and a landmark came to mind that would be a good enough challenge for me to do was The Shard in London. My pledge is to do the equivalent number of floors that The Shard has 95 floors to go up and down which makes it 190 floors

I know what I’m doing is going to be tough because if anyone has ever used a Stair Master whether it’s just a ten-minute burst or even an hour because I have seen people in the gym, I go to do that it is really tough on your body but the sense of achievement when I’ve completed this challenge is going to be massive. My training is going well but I’m dealing with one month at a time because the schedule is pretty full on but I know I’ll achieve it. Doing this for my best friend means so much and even though I am aiming to raise two possibly three thousand pounds to get my best friend the pacemaker that has changed her life the more we can raise the better.

I am going to be doing this challenge on the 24th of April 2026 which is 3 years and 4 months since Sophie got her first pacemaker. I would appreciate any sponsorship because the impact this money will have on her life is why it matters so much
