My Journey to serve

Donation protected
My name is Faith Alves and I am seventeen years old. In 2014

I had the opportunity to go on my first foreign mission trip to Mexico. I had participated in several local missions’ opportunities before but this was life changing! I realized that I had so much and took it for granted. The people we served lived simple lives, hard lives but had so much joy.  I had another opportunity to travel and serve in the Dominican Republic in 2016. I was a junior in high school and people had started asking what my post high plans were. After another absolutely life changing experience someone suggested YWAM to me as an option. I prayed about it and sought God for his direction and guidance. After doing research and talking with reps from YWAM I knew that was the next step for me post-graduation. While going through their serving opportunities I found one that jumped out and grabbed my heart.

This September I will head to YWAM Wisconsin to embark on the scariest, craziest and most wonderful journey thus far. There I will spend 12 weeks in classes and serving locally in the community. I will learn culture and crisis response. After the 12 week intensive learning I will then “graduate” the program and head off to spend another 10-12 weeks in a foreign nation serving and helping. My greatest passion is to serve kids who are lost, hurt, broken and abandoned. This trip will give me the opportunity to serve street kids, AIDS orphans, slum communities, refugees, and child survivors of human trafficking and sexual slavery.

Psalms 96:3 says “Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all people”. The closer graduation comes and I assess where my life will go and who I want to be the more I know that I cannot stay inside my comfortable bubble. The more I know that I need to be completely uncomfortable and outside my comfort zone in order to do and be who God is calling me to be. So I will travel to a new state where I know no one and devote myself to learning and loving. Loving my teammates and loving the community. Then I will fly to a country I have never been to and rely and trust that God’s got this. I have never been away from home or my family for longer than 2 weeks. I don’t mind telling you that I am nervous and a little anxious to take this leap. However, I know this is where He wants me to be so I am all in. I’m excited to get to work and be stretched. To learn to love in a greater capacity and learn to give with reckless abandon all that I am and who I will be for His purpose!

As all mission trips come with a dollar cost I am fundraising. So first I would ask you to partner with me in prayer. Giving a few moments of your time to pray protection, guidance, blessings, and growth over me and those I team up with would be most appreciated. If you feel led to donate funds for my trip I would greatly appreciate that as well.

I will be adding information and updates throughout this process. Thank you in advance!

Isaiah 6:8   Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” and I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
