My journey to Ironman 70.3

Donation protected
Hey everyone!

I’ve got some exciting life updates! I’m officially training for an Ironman 70.3, which is a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run! The race is happening on October 25th in Wilmington, NC, and I can’t even express how pumped I am for this!

You may or may not know, but in 2021, I actually trained for an Ironman 70.3 but due to unforeseen life circumstances, I couldn’t race. I trained with my friends up until the very end, and I even traveled to Orlando, FL to watch them cross that finish line. That experience left me even more determined to make this dream a reality someday, and I’m finally doing it!

Now, here’s something I haven’t shared with a lot of you, and I feel it’s time to open up. I’ve been dealing with a couple of health conditions that have made this journey a bit more difficult. As a teenager, I was diagnosed with PCOS, and in 2022, I was put on hormonal birth control to help with my symptoms. Unfortunately, this caused me to gain 70 pounds in just a matter of months. Over the last year, I have successfully lost about 60 of those pounds. But that isn’t the only challenge. In March of last year, I was diagnosed with a benign pituitary brain tumor. My symptoms and migraines have been tough, but the good news is that the medication to shrink it has been working, and I’m feeling more positive and hopeful than ever!

So, why am I doing all of this? I’m training for this race to prove to myself that I can. Despite all of the challenges I’ve faced, I want to prove that even though my body sometimes feels like it’s working against me, anything is possible.

Just as much as there has been negative experiences that shaped me as a human being, there have been very positive experiences that have uplifted my spirits and reminded me just how powerful it is to be alive. I’m training not just to finish this race, but to remind myself that it’s okay to face life’s challenges head-on, and that even the toughest experiences can turn into something beautiful and meaningful.

As Luke Hopkins says, "You can change your life, you just have to believe you can first." And that’s exactly what I’m doing—believing in myself, even when things get tough.

I’ve set up a GoFundMe for anyone who feels led to donate towards my race— but please know, there is absolutely no pressure! Your support, love, and prayers would mean the world to me as I train! I’m so grateful for each and every one of you, and I’ll be posting updates on my progress as I train and get closer to race day.

The goal of this race is simple: to have fun and FINISH. That’s it. No time goals, no pressure, just finishing what I started and doing it for myself. Thank you so much for being a part of this journey with me. I appreciate each one of you more than you know. Let’s do this!

 With love, K
