My journey of perseverance and excellence

My name is Destiny Frederick, and I'm reaching out to you with a grateful heart and hopeful spirit. I have been doing all I could through my own means, but I find myself in a situation where I could really use some support during my challenging but rewarding path to becoming a physician.

Coming from a humble background as a first-generation college graduate, raised by a single mother with 7 kids, I have learned to become self-reliant in life, especially with achieving my aspirations to not add burden to those around me. My family has always been hardworking and full of life, but we've faced financial struggles, making my journey to where I am today a bit of a rollercoaster. Through hard work and perseverance, I find myself at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), pursuing my dream of becoming a pediatrician. It's a dream that's been with me for as long as I can remember, despite the adversities I faced, and I'm determined to see it through.

Recently, my primary support system was cut off abruptly, and I had to face the challenge of managing my mental health and supporting myself while navigating the incredibly demanding world of medical school. Being a minority in the medical field has had its own unique set of challenges, but it's also given me the strength and determination to keep pushing forward.

With my goals within reach, the financial burden has become overwhelming. The expectations of students having to fund their education whilst told not to work due to the program's demand is neither fair nor realistic to those financially independent. Bills are piling up, and the weight of my debt feels like a constant shadow. I want to focus on my first year of medical school with all my energy, and your help would be an immense relief.
