Hello,
My name is Emma Hutchinson. I am a 3rd year BFA film student at DePaul University. I have written a short film that I plan to direct and produce this April/May and I am so excited!
Synopsis:
Ellie, as a child has a very deep connection with her best friend, Avery. However, only Ellie is able to see Avery. Growing up, Avery accompanied Ellie through her father’s abuse and her parents’ divorce. After being put through years in therapy, Ellie is conditioned into believing that Avery was a figment of her imagination. As she gets older, she believes that she has gotten rid of her illusions. However, several years later, now in college, Ellie bumps into a familiar stranger who ends up helping Ellie navigate a tough situation. Is Avery really a figment of her imagination?
My Inspiration:
I wanted to bring the idea of a guardian angel to life. The idea of having an imaginary friend is a typical childhood behavior. Most people outgrow this phase, but what if we didn’t? What if our imaginary friends continued to guide us and bring us comfort in our times of difficulty?
With themes of mental health and coping mechanisms, this story observes the changing ways in which a person deals with trauma, both from the perspective of a child and as a young adult.
I would love the chance to make this concept a reality and to put the film into action, but I need your help to do so! All funds raised will go directly to production: feeding the cast and crew, renting equipment, acquiring costumes and locations, etc. Any size donation helps, and of course, will get credits in the finished product. Thank you so much for your generosity.
