What ever happened to Family Friendly banking?

In May 2018, I applied for a Mortgage Refinance of $80,000 thru the bank where I've had my checking account for the past 26 years.  It was quite a chore getting all the paperwork and documentations together because it all had to be completed by July 30, 2018, when I had major back surgery. I was so relieved when I was given a closing date of September 12, 2018. HOWEVER, only one week before closing, the bank sent a notice informing me I had to do $8,000 worth of repairs before they would complete the refinance. Kinda dumb when the repairs (including a handicap ramp) is what I needed the money for in the first place.
That refinance would have paid off ALL of my outstanding debt and the current mortgage ($42,500) with enough money left over to do all the necessary repairs and improvements on the house. PLUS get desperately needed Hearing Aids and Dentures.
So, I tried again; this time thru my mortgage holder. However, on Thursday, July 25, I received a letter from the mortgage servicer denying my request for Loss Mitigation.  Now, I'm not only stuck with overwhelming bills, I'm 6 months behind on my mortgage payments because the past due amount was to be settled with the Loss Mitigation.
I am 63, permanently disabled and have lived in this house since April 2000 (that's 19+ years) with my son and my furbabies. I had a good job that I loved. Never in a million years would I ever have anticipated getting diagnosed with some unheard of disease that had no known cause and no cure. Systemic Sarcoidosis caused scarring in my lungs which forced me to be put on Oxygen Therapy 24/7 in 2003 - and forced me to stop working.
Living on Social Security in today's economy is nearly impossible. Medical Premiums, Prescription Drug copays, Doctor copays, transportation costs all on top of the costs of everyday living was difficult, but we survived.
However, year after year the cost of living went up higher and higher and Social Security payments no longer made ends meet. By 2017, I knew we were in trouble and needed help after several household emergencies required that I take out loans to finance repairs and replacements . First, the HVAC died and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, one of the problems that can develop as a result of the Sarcoidosis is the body's inability to regulate changes in temperature, making a new HVAC unit that was up to the new "Code" requirements, a necessity. So, it was financed and installed. Next a couple of the burners on the stove quit working and replacing them did not solve the issue. So, for several months, we got by on the remaining two burners. That is, until the oven quit working, too and in the same week, the dryer quit working. Yes, they were all nearly 20 years old and normal wear and tear is supposed to be expected - financially, it was an unforeseen burden on top of a situation that was already threatening to collapse.
The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back came in 2017 when the Hot Water Heater busted and flooded the kitchen. No, Homeowners Insurance does not cover costs incurred from normal wear and tear. Thankfully, the flooring didn't have to be replaced, but the Hot Water Heater itself, did. However, along with the Heater installation, the gas line and water lines had to be moved and replaced as they were no longer up to Code. That was a MAJORLY huge expense that, once again, had to be Financed. Sinking ... sinking ... sinking.
The first of 2019 was a disaster. The premium for my Medicare Supplement Insurance nearly doubled and my Social Security check decreased because of the Medicare premium was now being taken out.
My parents died in 2009 so I no longer have anyone to turn to for advice and/or assistance. I don't even have a church home any more. You see, once you become disabled and homebound, people tend to forget all about you. Now, aside from my Psychiatrist and Therapist, I literally have no one to turn to and I am desperate. My adult son lives with me as my caretaker. He also works a full-time job. He does all he can, but as a cashier at the local grocery store, he doesn't make that much to begin with. He has a learning disability and is unable to drive. He relies on a taxi to get to and from work because he works 3rd shift and the buses don't run at night here.
I want to keep my house. It's the only real home we have ever known. Besides, we are just a over a mile from the hospital and all my doctors and specialists. We're just under a mile from my son's job. Not only is this our home, but the convenient location is essential to our day-to-day existence.
I've reached the point of breaking.  I'm so scared of ending up on the street. We have anywhere to go and no one to help. I haven't been able to drive since 2003 and I don't have any money left to even attempt to go anywhere. Besides, my fur-babies, Lola, Brigid and Deaglan want to stay here, too.
I have reached the point where I'm swallowing my pride and begging for help from strangers.
All I can do now is pray that God will perform a miracle.
