My Hodgkins Lymphoma Hair Loss

Donation protected

Thank you for taking the time to visit my
fundraising page.
My name is Kayleigh Jackson and I am
32 years old, on 13th July 2020 I was
diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.
This is a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, which is a network of
vessels and glands spread throughout your body. The lymphatic system is part of your
immune system. Clear fluid called lymph
flows through the lymphatic vessels and
contains infection-fighting white blood
cells, known as lymphocytes.
In Hodgkin lymphoma, B-lymphocytes
(a particular type of lymphocyte) start to
multiply in an abnormal way and begin to
collect in certain parts of the lymphatic
system, such as the lymph nodes (glands).
The affected lymphocytes lose their
infection-fighting properties, making you
more vulnerable to infection. Personally I
have enlarged Lymph nodes in the left side of my neck and in my chest.

Only six weeks prior to my diagnosis I visited my GP to express concerns of a gurgling feeling that I had experienced in my chest. My doctor proceeded to run the vital tests, scans then finally a biopsy to be able to
diagnose my illness.

My doctor decided that fortnightly ABVD Chemotherapy for 6-8months would be
the best course of treatment for me.
Before I could start my chemotherapy I had to undergo hormone treatment to protect my fertility. My first chemo was on 20th
August, I have been preparing myself for
the array of symptoms that come with this wonderful drug to cure me. One of which
could be hair loss.

My beautiful sister Katie (pictured with her bubba) is amazingly shaving her head and
sending those fabulous locks back to
England from her home in Western
Australia. Making this possible would mean the world to me, even though my hair will
be gone, I will have my sisters hair on my
head to keep me mentally dignified
through my chemo. A wig made from my
sisters hair comes at a price of £3,800 and
takes approximately 4 months to make.

The shave will be happening mid
September, shortly after Katie’s 31st
Birthday. I may or may not be hairless
whilst the wig is being made but I will take
comfort in knowing that through all of the
support from my family and friends,
animals and on lookers... I will eventually
have the perfect wig made from my sisters hair. There is also a chance that I do not
loose my hair. If this is the case I will gladly donate the wig to someone who needs it.

Thank you so much for reading and I wish
you a wonderful day.
