Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help and support for my amazing mom, Terra Schoonover Fields. For the second time, she is battling cancer. When I was really young, she beat cancer and now she’s going through it again. :(

In January, our family received devastating news—my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. On March 27th, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy and was found to have three types of breast cancer, with metastasis to one lymph node. As if that wasn’t enough, complications after surgery led to another major procedure due to necrosis that had reached the chest wall.

She can’t begin treatment until she’s fully healed, but her autoimmune disorder is slowing down recovery. We’re anxiously hoping for good news from her PET scan on May 16th, and that she’ll be healed enough to begin six weeks of radiation (30 sessions) starting May 26th. All of this depends on how her body heals.

My mom is the heart of our family. She’s also the full-time caregiver for my dad, a disabled veteran injured in Iraq in 2007. Despite everything, she’s continued to care for him with the same love and strength she’s shown all her life.

But the strain is becoming too much. Trips to the cancer center 2–4 times a week, mounting medical bills, and lost income are taking a toll—even with insurance, many costs aren’t covered. My mom hates the thought of asking for help. I’m coming to you as a heartbroken daughter and asking for everyone to open their hearts for my mom.
