My Heartfelt Wish--Ty Bassett
Donation protected
Many of you know the details of my journey over the last two decades. My family and I have the difficult task of letting you know that that journey is coming to an end. My team of doctors from MD Anderson have done everything they can, and they expect I may have a month to spend with my loved ones. I have an important wish I would like to request of you.
Something that some may not know is that I have battled another deadly disease apart from my cancer. My alcoholism and drug addiction, left untreated, would have killed me far faster than this cancer has. I found sobriety at Miami's bastion of recovery, the Little River Club. The club, as well as the people who introduced me to the 12 steps, gave me the full life I have been blessed with.
The gift of sobriety that Little River Club has provided has allowed me to be the best dad I could ever be to Joseph and the best husband I could be to Jo. I consider my other purpose to carry the message of recovery to those who still suffer from the disease of alcoholism and addiction. Your donations in my honor would would allow me to continue this primary purpose after I am gone.
The Little River Club is a non-profit club room which has been in Miami's Little River neighborhood since 1964. This fixture in the recovery community receives clients from Drug Court, some come in from the street, and others are brought by treatment centers. It is where newcomers meet long term sober members to sponsor them, taking them through the 12 steps of recovery. It has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people during that time. Families got their loved ones back, lives were restored and people were made whole. I was one of them. It's a place where I learned about giving with no expectation of reward. But I was rewarded with a life beyond my dreams. Your generosity would allow others coming in the same opportunity. Further, those that haven't yet found the Little River Club will have a place to go when their time for recovery is ripe.
The club, being a non-profit, has been struggling of late with increases in insurance, repairs on the building etc. It would mean the word to me if you would make a generous donation in an my memory. It will help keep it open in perpetuity.
As a 501c3 entity, your donations will be tax deductible. The Board of Directors will gladly have the Treasurer provide the necessary form with the Tax ID for your charitable contributions.
The Little River Club has been dear to my heart and the lifelong friendships I have made there will be with me forever and beyond.
I thank you and love you,
Ty
