My Grandfather had a heart attack in China

I am an academic advisor for a student from Vietnam who is facing serious financial challenges this semester. I have decided to try to help her and her twin sister by setting up this Gofundme, since they cannot set this up through their Vietnamese or Chinese bank accounts. Please read their message below.

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted individuals,

We hope this message finds you well. With a heavy heart, we would like to appeal for your support of my grandfather’s unfortunate story that happened right on the campus of my university - Duke Kunshan, in China.

On August 4th, my beloved grandfather came to visit us at Duke Kunshan University in China, filled with joy and excitement. However, while walking on campus, he suffered a sudden heart attack. It was the most heartbreaking scene of my life when I saw my grandfather's heart stop and his body went cold right in front of my eyes. Fortunately, thanks to the quick and compassionate response of the people around him, he was rushed to the Kunshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Suzhou, Jiangsu, just a few kilometers away. He was then treated with heart surgery, an ECMO machine, dialysis, and many other devices to keep him alive.

Our family is now confronted with the staggering cost of my grandfather's medical treatment. As he doesn't possess Chinese medical insurance, we are left with an estimated bill of approximately 500,000 RMB (equivalent to 70,000 USD). This unexpected burden has put immense strain on our finances, especially as my twin sister and I are currently enrolled at Duke Kunshan University, and still have our annual tuition fee. Above all that, my mother has to postpone her job as a professor in Vietnam to stay here to take care of him. Seeing my mother struggling to find help in a foreign country truly breaks our hearts.

With great humility, we turn to you, our friends, family, and compassionate individuals, seeking your support during this difficult time. We have set up a Gofundme campaign to raise 70,000 USD to cover my grandfather's medical expenses and relieve our family of the financial burden that threatens our education.
