Hi, my name is Vicky, and I’m fundraising for my brave granddaughter, Maddie-Rose, who is currently in pediatric intensive care following open heart surgery.

Her operation lasted 12 long hours, and while she made it through the surgery itself, she has faced several serious complications since. Maddie-Rose developed a chest infection and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which caused her condition to worsen quickly.

On Friday, we were hopeful — she was extubated and breathing on her own. But heartbreakingly, on Saturday morning, Maddie-Rose took a turn for the worse. She had to be reintubated and placed in an induced coma for stabilization. Due to dangerously low oxygen levels, she’s now receiving neuroprotection to prevent further damage. The medical team plans to perform a CT scan of her lungs and further investigations before attempting to wake her again.

This has been an incredibly difficult time for our family. We’re staying as close to Maddie-Rose as possible while she fights for recovery — but the cost of living at the hospital, travel, meals, and still trying to keep up with household bills back home is taking a huge toll.
