My Girl is So Sick....

Donation protected
Tuesday afternoon-

This has to be quick. We meet with the vet in less than an hour. Moxie, my dear girl and constant companion, is gravely ill. I’ll edit later with more details, but he white blood count has plummeted and her docs and specialists don't know why. We've burned through much of our savings in these two days. When the money’s gone, there are no more options.

Moxie is a 10lb mini dachshund that goes everywhere with me. She visits with her veterinarian regularly and was healthy and lean. She camps, canoes, helps teach art workshops, is Santa's helper and keeps the cat under control.

I expected to make these decisions someday....but not with a healthy 6 year old. I'm really at a loss.

Tuesday Evening-

We had an opportunity to visit with the vet tech and discuss options. There’s no diagnosis or prognosis so navigation is difficult. Anyone who’s been through this understand that enormous costs with each step forward.

Yes, that’s her tongue in my nose. If you know Moxie her tongue has probably been in yours.

Wednesday Morning -

I spent about an hour talking to internist/blood specialist. There are 2-3 paths through this and I’m hopeful. Your donations and support contribute to that hope. Without them, we’d be out of options. I’ll know much more tonight.

General Thoughts-

The $10,000 goal for this campaign is a stab in the dark. We’ve spent more than half that out of pocket. Thankfully we had some cash at our disposal. It’s brought us this far.

I’m never comfortable asking for
money like this. I know dogs are expensive. I know it’s my responsibility. I’ve lost dogs before. But they weren’t Moxie and their deaths were expected. Moxie’s sudden decline was nothing anyone could have expected.

My creative life is 100% about building community. Usually these communities form are puns art, music, toboggans and service. It brings me so much joy to have this community form around Moxie. She is so dear to so many.
