I'm Gavin @gavinseim - A journalist and portrait photographer documenting souls, the people, fashion, and culture of Mexico in the 2020's. It needs to be recorded.

Gavin's truck was broken into in Mexico on July 15th....

I was working in San Juan del Río, Mexico, and left my truck LOCKED in a park to go take photos. They broke in and took about $4000 USD in cash, camera gear, and tools in full daylight.

I don't like asking for money - So do NOT give if you don't have the means. I don't want to be a burden. But things are a bit tight, and I felt I should not be too proud to make this. Insurance for gear in the field barely exists in Mexico.

If you like my work, my journalism, or me and want to help out so I can get some of the important items back quicker and keep working, I thank you.

The biggest items lost were a Nikon lens, a Contax T film camera (ouch), and a DJI Pocket I use for videos. But there was cash and a lot of random tools and photo stuff also.

Many talk badly about Mexico. The truth is theft happens everywhere. Many have not learned to be kind yet. I'm careful, and this is the first time something like this has happened in 8 years working in Mexico.

That said, this was organized theft, not a random act. It seems they were watching my vehicle. When I went around the corner, they came in fast, broke the door locks, and took everything inside.

Some people like me, others don't. But one day what I'm doing today in Mexico will be history, a book, a story, reminding us of these important and complex times. I try to see people for real as I capture beauty, culture, and try to capture their soul.

These funds will be used to pay for losses and replace essentials.

Thank you - Gavin Seim
