my friends were robbed of music equipment & car

me and my friends were robbed. someone stole my friend’s car and all the items stored in the vehicle. all of us were either Black or a person of color. please note that this impacted how the police interpreted the urgency of our situation that night and how little our safety was considered in their suggestions to retrieve our stolen items. we were able to find the car after a couple grueling hours, but everything inside was taken.

i (stuti) was able to community mutual aid raise enough to cover my costs for what I lost (only my keys, headphones, a book, and a notebook & disposable camera).

however, my two friends were impacted the most financially in having to tow his car, which was stolen, and paying to have new keys and anything insurance won’t cover. he needs support making his car payments this month, as well. we are trying to raise $1000 for him.

Our other friend who is an incredible DJ & engineer who supports some of chicago’s most talented artists with his work lost his laptop and all his hard drives with music that can never be replaced. However, we are asking for $3000 to help him recover the losses for the equipment and to creatively invest in himself to rebuild after this devastating loss.
