One of my best friends, Steve Bateman needs my help and the help of as many friends as possible.
My good friend is facing a heartbreaking battle with end-stage heart failure, and they're desperately waiting for a life-saving heart transplant.
The path to this potentially transformative surgery is fraught with challenges – critically, their BMI is a major factor in determining eligibility for the transplant and ensuring a safe recovery.
To meet the criteria, they need to lose 20kg, but the severity of their heart condition means they have virtually no exercise tolerance. It's a cruel cycle that's taking a devastating toll on his health, and time is running out.
Compounding this urgency is the harsh reality that they don't meet the NHS criteria for free weight loss treatment, as he is not a diabetic and the medication was primarily put into the market to aid people with diabetic needs, leaving us with no option but to rally support from compassionate people like you to fund their treatment. The costs are beyond what they can afford, which is why I'm turning to the kindness of strangers, friends, and acquaintances to help raise the funds needed.
This isn't just about medical numbers or clinical hurdles; it's about a person I care deeply about, who deserves a chance to live, to laugh, to be with his family without the constant shadow of heart failure.
Every donation brings Steve closer to getting the transplant that could gift them a new lease on life – to breathe easier, to walk unaided, to cherish moments with family and friends.
*How You Can Help My Friend*
Any contribution you can make would profoundly impact my friend's fight for life.
Funds raised will go directly towards covering the costs of their medical treatment and the weight loss drug to help him to get to the required weight, helping overcome the barriers to this potentially life-saving transplant.
*Ways to Support*
1. *Donate*: Any amount helps – £10, £20, £50 – every pound takes them closer to treatment.
2. *Share Their Story*: Spread the word on social media, tell friends and family – your voice can make a difference.
*A Message of Thanks*
On behalf of my friend, Steve Bateman, I'm deeply grateful for any support you can offer. Your generosity gives them hope in a time when they need it most, and for that, we'll be eternally thankful.
Thanking you all for your time and patience in reading Steve's story.
