I decided to share my story with you about what I have been going through since the Ukraine war started on February 23, 2022.
I was born in Ukraine in Lviv city, 40km from Poland. My father and brother still live in Lviv. I also have childhood friends who live all over Ukraine.
When the war started, I couldn’t believe that it could happen in our time, in the 21st century. For the first two weeks, I was crying a lot, and after that, I decided that I needed to grab myself and try to help people. I send money to my friends and family as they don’t have any income. Every day I am in contact with all of them.
I decided to raise money, I have never done it before, as there are more people than my friends and family who need help.
Kharkiv City is just 40 km from the Russian border and is currently one of the most destroyed cities in Ukraine. Most of the people (from a population of 1.5 million) were able to get evacuated, but many still remain.
My friend Pavel, who lives in Kharkiv, decided to stay in the city so that he can provide help for the people who couldn’t evacuate. Currently, he is taking care of 43 neighbours who are living and hiding within the basement of their building - sixteen of them being elderly and sick, along with two kids under the age of five. He is the only one who has a car, and he risks his own life regularly to drive into the city to buy food and medicine for those within his building. He is also providing electricity to everyone via his car battery.
When I asked him if he needed any help, he refused it for himself but mentioned that his neighbours have run out of money, and don't have any income. The only source of food they have are a limited supply of vegetables.
The people within his building don't have anymore money to purchase any additional food. Every day they pray and hope that the war will end, but it still continues.
I am setting up a GoFundMe account in hopes to collect donations to help Pavel and those within his building. Pavel is willing to drive through the city and search for places where he can purchase any food. Pavel really wants to help his neighbours, but he's resources are limited. Your generosity will allow Pavel to continue to pay for gas and food for him and his 43 neighbours who desperately need your help.
The plan for money distribution:
- I am going directly transfer that money to Pavel Latishov by Paysend https://paysend.com/. I have his personal Master card
- Pavel promised that on every spend money on food and medicine, he is going to send the receipts to me directly.
- The food and medicine will be distributed to 43 people who live in the same building as Pavel lives.
- Pavel wants to deliver the food to other people who don't live in his building but have difficulties leaving apartments to get the food.
- The money is going to be spent in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
