Hi, my name is Michael McCarthy, but most of my friends call me Mikey. In life, everyone has their battles. Sometimes those battles change your life forever. In most cases, these personal battles require an army of support. This is where we can make a difference. My friend Caleb's battle started a year ago, just before Christmas. A persistently sore ankle that wouldn't seem to get better led to a noticeable upper left arm twitch. These two instances were of concern so Caleb headed in to see a doctor. After an MRI, EMG, and blood tests it was determined that he had ALS. This all happened over a 6-month time frame. As you can imagine, there was much worry as far as what this could be and what it meant for Caleb and his family's future. I learned of Caleb's illness last summer. The process of how to help or what to do has led me to this gofundme. Many times in life, when unfortunate things happen to others, it results in compassion and empathy, but no action. I can be the first to raise my hand when it comes to this. I can't tell you why this time is different. Maybe it's the fact that Caleb lives in an apartment with his wife and child and he struggles to make it down the stairs. My simple solution was shared with another friend of mine. That solution was to see if we could raise enough money to put a down payment on a single-story home removing the obstacle of stairs. While we can't solve ALS, we can alleviate some of the challenges people like Caleb face. Raising money for Caleb will help improve the quality of his life for him and his family. Please join me in collectively putting our compassion and empathy to work for Caleb and his family!
