My Foot Was Chopped Off
Pet Patrol is a volunteer-run, non-profit cat rescue organization in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. All our cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and any health concerns are addressed before they are available for adoption. Deena's Story:
I don’t remember much about my nursery, but I do remember seeing straw and hearing that it was a chicken coop. My story is that a lady who lives in a small village has been rescuing cats and having them spayed and neutered. Most of my family came from the farm next door. It’s not a nice place at all. They don’t feed us and the stable is pretty yucky. There are lots of horses, and plops of poop and it's damp and cold. There’s no hayloft, so barely a place to find dry and out of the elements. My siblings were rescued, but I didn’t know what was going on so I kept running away. The lady noticed that I was hopping all the time, and at first, she thought I had hurt my leg, and then she thought I had broken my leg.
Finally, one day I was rescued and that’s when she realized I didn’t have a foot! I was brought into Patrol care because she does not have the finances to help kitties like me. When I was taken to the kitty doctor the x-rays showed that there were only three bones in my foot, the rest were missing and all were broken. She thinks that either my foot got chopped off when I was tiny or something bit it off. I don’t remember much but I do remember that it hurt a lot. Not having a foot means that I can’t run properly so my whole spine and hips
are off kilter and the best thing to do is remove the leg.
I can’t use it. It’s no good to me and they tell me that over time with my joints moving unnaturally I will get arthritis at an early age. That does not sound good at all. So, I have had all the diagnostics done and now I’m waiting for my surgery. This leg bothers me most of
the time, so it would be a good idea for me to become a tripod kitty. If you can help me, I would be a happy kitty and be able to run and jump without a problem. I am a cute girl. I am a tiny girl and I used to be scared, but I know that Pet Patrol is doing the best for me.
