My mother, Eileen, unexpectedly passed away, and as her only child, I have found myself reflecting on the woman she was and the life she lived.

As I began sharing the news of her passing, I heard the same things over and over from the people who knew her: she was thoughtful, generous, considerate, and always willing to help. Friend after friend reached out with stories about the ways she showed up for them, often putting their needs before her own. The friendships she built lasted decades, and the women she called her friends were among the most important people in her life.

One of the things that brought my mother the most happiness was family. She absolutely adored our dogs—Kief, Nibbler, Love, Hope, Butters, and Sensi—whom she proudly referred to as her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to ask about them, spoil them, or talk about them with joy. They brought her so much happiness, and she loved them with the same warmth and care she gave so freely to the people in her life.

My mother didn’t have much, but what she did have, she shared. Looking back now, I realize how often she gave me the last of what she had. Whether it was money, time, energy, or comfort, she would sacrifice her own needs if it meant helping me or making me happy. As a child, I didn’t fully understand the weight of those sacrifices. As an adult, I see them everywhere.

She was cheerful and bubbly by nature. She tried to find the good in people and the good in difficult situations. She held tightly to her faith and always turned to God when life became overwhelming. One of the things she would tell me was, “If doing your best is all you can do, then it’s enough.” She believed that with her whole heart.

Like anyone, she wasn’t perfect. She had struggles and shortcomings. But perfection was never what made her special. What made her special was her kindness. She taught me that what we have is meant to be shared. She taught me that compassion matters. She taught me that there is joy in giving, even when you don’t have much to give.

She may not have left behind financial wealth, but she left behind something far greater: a legacy of generosity, faith, friendship, and love.

This fundraiser has been created to help cover the expenses associated with her unexpected passing and to give her the farewell she deserves. For most of my life, my mother gave whatever she could to make sure I was cared for. This is my opportunity to finally give something back to her. Any support, whether through a donation, a share, or simply keeping her memory alive, is appreciated more than I can express.

Thank you for helping me honor the woman who spent her life caring for others.
