As many of you know, my father suffered a massive stroke about three and a half months ago. Though he excelled in rehabilitation, and regained his speech, the outcome was catastrophic to his body leaving him paralyzed on his left side. He is currently a resident at Highview of Northampton assisted nursing facility. He has been there for about two months and wants nothing more than to go home.
In his time there, due to the long lasting effects of his stroke, he’s been steadily declining. As his healthcare proxy, and with his knowledge and advice from his doctors, nurses, and staff there, we have made the decision to continue his care through hospice. This is not an easy decision, or a decision I have made on my own, he is very much still of sound mind and can communicate his wants and needs. However, it is time to think of his wants and less so MY selfish desire for my own wants in his life.
This means, in order to get him home, I will need to hire around the clock nursing due to his need for 24hr care and supervision. This of course costs more than I can see paying on my own, and as I am what is left of his family in this area it comes down our finances. This is where you all come in.
These finances will go toward nursing staff mainly, and any medical equipment we may need in order to have him transferred home and have it be a safe environment for him to live while in hospice. Sadly we all know what hospice means, and these funds will most likely go towards funeral costs as well in the future, though hopefully not too soon. Again, with his type of stroke and with what doctors have told me it seems to be inevitable.
$10,000 is a starting place, and quite a large one in my mind, but necessary and probably not even close to what’s needed. From what I’ve gathered, the nursing that is not covered by insurance (which is the majority of it) can cost up to around $25/hr. So, anything in this situation is helpful!
Thank you all in advance. Please feel free to share and do what this community does best.
Love you all,
Orendah
