My father's funeral in Poland and help for my mom

Donation protected
My dad quite unexpectedly lost his life April 28th 2021. My dad was passionate about sciences and technology and manually well skilled and precise in everything he did.  Anyone who knows me well knows that I was very close to my dad, calling 4-5 times a week at midnight (my time), to discuss how to fix the air conditioner on my car or my computer or to simply chat. He was always willing to help anyone and was kind to everyone. Everyone he loved, he loved with an absolutely unconditional love. He had an open heart, supporting anyone who needed support. He was an extremely intelligent and sensitive man.

Complicating matters is the situation with my mother. My mother and father have been together for 46 years and she was, especially in recent years, completely and totally dependent on him. He cooked for both of them, did shopping and all kinds of errands, and was her constant companion. For a couple months they were both hospitalized in different health units. At some point they were moved to the same facility and could see each other, but about two weeks after my dad passed. It is an incomprehensible loss for her. She is awaiting my arrival to leave the rehabilitation center because she cannot make the transition without help.

I'm going to Poland on July 19th 2021. The financial burden is far beyond my abilities. I have to somehow prepare my mom for living without my father including the renovating of her apartment. In addition to the hiring of some part time help, along with the expenses of my fathers funeral (to avoid a "state funeral", limited to 5 people because of covid restrictions in April/May, I had my father embalmed and held for my arrival to perform the funeral he wished to have).

I am reaching out because I have no extended family to help, and as a full-time rabbinical student and part time worker I have to take my time off, so me and my mom really use some help.

These are the financial needs I have to cover:

- flight to Poland: $800
- my dad’s funeral: $1200
- my dad’s memorial reception: $400
- the cost of embalming and keeping his body: $1400
- my mom’s rehab unit additional costs that are beyond her retirement pension: $500
- walker for my mom: $100
- renovation of my mom's apartment: painting, renovating floors, installing new cabinets in the kitchen and buying a new shower cabin to the bathroom: $2200

Total: $6600
