Insurmountable Medical Bills

Hello, my name is Melanie Hernandez and I am creating this fundraiser to help my beloved father-in-law who has been in a hospital in Mexico for 4 weeks in counting, after suffering a brain aneurysm. He is a strong and healthy man who unexpectedly fell ill, two months after celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary.

You can see how healthy he looked just two months before he fell ill. He still has so much to do in life and my mother-In -law, my husband, his sister and his brothers are doing all they can to help him overcome this horrible situation. He has had two brain surgeries, had a pacemaker put in, a tracheotomy, and a feeding tube, etc… Although he is not awake yet, he is able to move his hands and flutter his eyes to respond. He did open his eyes several days ago but then had to undergo another surgery. It is going to take a very long time for him to recover and for the foreseeable future he will also need a nurse around the clock to help care for him and to help my mother-in-law.

Once he is discharged, he will have so many round the clock needs and it will continue to be extremely expensive, several thousand dollars a month. We are exhausting all we have in our accounts, savings, etc… to pay off the huge bills that keep piling up, but it simply isn’t enough. I’m talking about major bills from the neurosurgeon, cardiologist, therapist, hospital, etc… As of now he has at least $200,000 in bills.

It is hard asking for help for your own family, but something has to budge in order to care for Julian, my father-in-law, and to reduce the stress of my brothers and sister-in-law and mother-in-law.

Because he is in Mexico, my husband and I will have to take over the funds and show people my plan in terms of how I will disperse the money

that we raise, if any. I will set up a very transparent plan so you know exactly what is being paid.

I ask you with all my heart to please help us in this dire time of need. The hospital in Mexico is not like the U.S., there they are calling and billing weekly asking for money. :( It is a very hard situation.
