Then, on March 2, against all odds, my husband opened his eyes. It was a moment we will never forget. Tears, hugs, and immense gratitude to God and the incredible medical team filled our hearts. But we know this is only the beginning of a very long journey.

The doctors have been very honest with us: his recovery will take many months. My husband started intensive rehabilitation just one week ago (physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy), but his health remains fragile. He is still hospitalized at Foothills Medical Centre because any complication could set him back significantly. We celebrate every small step forward, yet the road ahead is long and uncertain.

Over the coming months, we will face expenses we never imagined: intensive rehab sessions, specialized medications, daily transportation to and from the hospital, home modifications for when he eventually returns, and all the personal costs a family must cover when one of its strongest members is fighting to walk, speak, and regain his independence again.

We are a close-knit family and we are ready to do whatever it takes, but the financial reality of a long-term recovery in Canada is overwhelming. That’s why we created this campaign: every dollar raised will go directly toward covering medical and rehabilitation costs not fully covered by the healthcare system, and to help us support my husband with dignity throughout this entire process. El 13 de febrero de 2026, mi esposo sufrió un aneurisma cerebral grave que cambió nuestras vidas en un instante. Fue trasladado de emergencia al Foothills Medical Centre en Calgary, donde entró en coma por dos largas semanas. Esas fueron las semanas más angustiosas de nuestras vidas: no sabíamos si volveríamos a escuchar su voz, si podría abrazarnos de nuevo o si alguna vez regresaría a casa y los doctores nos recalcaron que nunca iba a despertar.

El 2 de marzo, contra todo pronóstico, mi esposo abrió los ojos. Fue un momento que nunca olvidaremos. Las lágrimas, los abrazos y la gratitud a Dios y al equipo médico fueron inmensas. Pero sabemos que esto solo es el comienzo. Los médicos nos han sido muy claros: la recuperación será larga y tomará muchos meses. Mi esposo ya comenzó su rehabilitación hace una semana (terapia física, ocupacional y del habla), pero su salud sigue siendo delicada. Todavía está hospitalizado en el Foothills Medical Centre porque cualquier complicación podría retrasar todo. Cada día avanzamos un poquito, pero el camino por delante es largo y lleno de incertidumbre.

Durante estos meses vamos a enfrentar gastos que nunca imaginamos: sesiones intensivas de rehabilitación, medicamentos especializados, transporte diario al hospital, adaptaciones en casa para cuando regrese, y todos los gastos personales que una familia debe cubrir cuando uno de sus pilares está luchando por volver a caminar, hablar y recuperar su independencia.

Somos una familia unida y estamos dispuestos a hacer todo lo necesario, pero la realidad económica de una recuperación tan prolongada en Canadá es abrumadora. Por eso creamos esta campaña: cada dólar que podamos recaudar irá directamente a cubrir los costos médicos y de rehabilitación que no están completamente cubiertos por el sistema de salud, y a ayudarnos a sostener a mi esposo con dignidad durante todo este proceso.
