My family forced to sleep outside as council refuses to help

I’m writing this on behalf of my mum and dad.

Last year my parent’s house was taken over by rats coming through the waste pipes from the sewer which was very poorly maintained. They were coming up the toilet and jumping in the bath and drowning, he has loads of videos and photos of the rats jumping out of the toilet, he has shared this with the council numerous times and they are still ignoring him.

Last year everything in the property had to be thrown out either due to flooding from the rats chewing the water pipes or chewing through everything including household items which had to be thrown out. It has taken my dad over 12 months to replace the things that were damaged as he’s on a low income.

They went without a washing machine and bath for months on end constantly begging the council to come out and sort it but nothing was done which resulted in my mum and dad hand washing clothes which made his hyper mobility syndrome worse. My 2 sisters aged 2 & 4 at the time were having to bathe in a storage tub for months, this made it very difficult as my 2 year old sister has non verbal autism.

The council promised multiple times for a vermin sleeve to be fitted but again nothing was done even using my dad as an excuse for the reason it hasn’t been installed. My dad has written hundreds of complaints to get this problem resolved. My dad also has video and audio recordings of council workers lying and being deceitful. A council worker then had the audacity to say to my dad that he was going to delay the work being done for no reason.

My dad ended up catching Weil’s disease (Leptospirosis) 4 times in the last 12 months. My dad went to hospital 3 weeks ago to get oral antibiotics because he had contracted weils disease again, he then had to go back to hospital on Thursday the 5th of June suffering with another case of severe Weil’s disease and was told it can have up to a 40% mortality rate and was given antibiotics intravenously and is now on 2 different types of strong oral antibiotics for 5 weeks. The doctor at the hospital warned my dad that if he went back in the house it will most likely be fatal this time so my mum, dad, little brother and 2 sisters are having to sleep in a tent in the back garden as the council flat out refused to put them into temporary accommodation.

They are all having to sleep in a gazebo in the back garden and it breaks my heart.

This is absolutely devastating watching my family going through this and they are getting absolutely no support from anyone and having to turn to go fund me to raise some money to help them with accommodation, clothes and food.
