My Elementary School in South Africa Needs Help!

Hello Everyone,

I am Chesray Dolpha and I come from a very poor neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa named Uitsig. Through educational opportunities, I have been able to get educated and relocate to New York City, where I am based. Last year I had the pleasure to visit my elementary school in April 2022 while visiting family back home. I sat down with the principal Mrs. Smith, who use to be one of my teachers. And hearing the socio-economic reality of my elementary school community moved me to tears. She explained the desperate financial situation she and this school community faces.

This school is situated in one of the most dangerous and disenfranchised communities on the Cape Flats. My community in Uitsig battles with pervasive drug addication, joblessness, lack of resources, and lack of employment opportunities. And like the pupils explained to me, there are no resources for any recreational activities although there is such excitement and need for programming after school.

I left the school that day knowing, I had to help in any way I can. I told the principal about GoFund Me and she said "Please, any help would go so far".

In South Africa it is the beginning of the school year and I just heard from the principal, the situation is even more desperate than when I visited a couple of months ago. Please donate any amount you can, there is no amount too small or too big!
